James “Jim” Harris Jr, age 93, of Troy, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Edwardsville Care Center. Jim was born on March 24, 1930, at home, in Dover, TN, a son of the late James Harris Sr. and Viola Harris.
Jim was a Korean War veteran who proudly served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. On September 26, 1981, Jim met Pam Linden, the love of his life and Pam preceded Jim in death. Jim retired as a truck driver after many years of dedicated service. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed playing his guitar and singing in various bands with his great friends. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and he enjoyed watching them play. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by a son, James Harris; four sisters, Mary Ann, Martha, Dorothy Draper and Allie Mae; and by his brother, Gordon Harris.
He is survived his loving children, Pam (Josh) Church of Troy, IL, Thomas (Heather) Harris of IN, Mary Renee Harris of MO, and Barbara Shaffer of Collinsville, IL; dear sisters, Margie Nell Atkins and Marilyn Hargrove of TN; proud grandfather to Cameron, Duke and Linden; many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In celebration of his life, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
