James E. Grider Jr. age 74 of Greenville, passed away at 6:44 p.m. Saturday with his family at his side at HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Monday April 13, 2026 at the Collinsville-Troy Church of Christ at 1400 Troy Rd in Collinsville with Pastor Jason Wright officiating. The family welcome friends joining them at the Church from 10 a.m. Monday until servioce time. Memorials may be made to Jim's Family or to the Church of Christ at the Church or at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Military honors will be given by Bond County V.F.W. Post 1377.
James Ernest Grider Jr. the son of James Ernest Grider Sr. and Thelma Irene Walker Grider was born on Friday, April 4, 1952, in East St. Louis, Illinois. Jim’s family moved to Greenville when he was age 8 and he attended the Public Schools and Greenville High School. Jim answered his countries call by joining the United States Army on March 9, 1971, and rose to the rank of Sp4 serving overseas. Jim was awarded the medals including National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Parachute Badge, Expert 45 Cal Pistol, M 79, M16, and Grenade. Jim was honorably discharged on February 28, 1973, at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Jim returned to Greenville where he worked for Pepsi, a St. Louis Pool Table maker, and in 1978 began working for the public works for the City of Greenville for over 35 years. After retiring he worked for Bond County Transit for another 9 years.
Jim was an outdoorsman extraordinaire, enjoying hunting (Bow and Arrow and Gun), fishing and trapping, gardening, and riding his 4-wheeler. For 25 years, he was an entrepreneur selling fireworks to the community, making new friends along the way. Jim was his happiest when surrounded by his family and grandchildren. Jim was a member of the Collinsville-Troy Church of Christ. The Church will be live streaming the service.
Jim and Judith M. Haberer were united in marriage on February 2, 1974, at the Wisetown Baptist Church and enjoyed over 52 years together. Judith survives as do two of their three daughters: April (Adam) Parker of Clinton, IL, and Linda (Marciano) Garcia of Bloomsdale, MO, 9 grandchildren: Josh, Jared, Marciano, Ric, Liam, Myah, Malayna, Ava, and Elliot, and son in law Brian Standley of Warrenton, MO. Jim is also survived by his sister Shirley, and many nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his daughter Dawn Marie Standley on April 19, 2017, his parents and siblings: Barbara Jean, Charles, Thelma Louise, and Linda. Jim was also preceded by his beloved companion, Chico.
