James Thomae

James E. Thomae., 79, of Alton, passed away peacefully at 6:00 am on Sunday September 10, 2017 at Integrity of Alton.He was born April 30, 1938 the son of the late Clarence Phillip and Nellie Rose (Richey) Thomae.He married Jean L. Richards on February 9, 1959 in Jerseyville.  She preceded him in death in 2003.James worked as a machinist at Owens IL. Glass for 47 years before retiring in 2004. He was the founder and president of the Alton Area Camera Club and taught metaphysics at his home.  He is survived by four children Theresa (Jane Rothwell) Thomae of Chico, CA, Mary (Joseph) Ruyle of Alton, IL, Valarie (Josiah) Hair of Oklahoma City OK, and Karen (Rodney) Depper of Alton, IL; two brothers Robert “Bob” Thomae of Godfrey, IL, and Paul (Diane) Thomae of Lakeville MN; a sister in law Marjorie “Margie” Thomae; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his wife, Jean, he was preceded in death by a daughter Julia Thomae; a brother Gerald “Jerry” Thomae; a sister in law Jean Thomae; step mother Clara Thomae.  Visitation will be held Friday September 15, 2017 from 10 am to 2 pm at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.A private Burial will take place at St. Dennis Cemetery in Shipman at a later date.Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded.Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association.Online condolences and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
