James R. “Jim Bob” DeWerff, 74, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Jan. 17, 1950 in Alton, he was a son of Laurence P. DeWerff, Sr. and Roma Lee (Brummell) DeWerff.
A standout athlete for East Alton-Wood River High School, Jim Bob retired after 38 years as a laborer for the City of Wood River.
He married Connie E. Murphy May 8, 1976 in Wood River. She survives, as well as three daughters, Ashly DeWerff of Jerseyville, Amber Willeford of East Alton, and Autumn DeWerff and her husband Lee Childers of Wood River; six grandchildren, Chase, Dante, Darius, Madison, Kaden, and Peyton; a sister, Kathy Henderson of Alton; and a brother, Larry (Marie) DeWerff of Moro.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Millie DeWerff.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2024 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
