James “Dalton” Clark, 89, passed away at 11:54 p.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2017, at Alton Memorial Hospital.He was born September 24, 1927, in Puxico, Missouri, to Arch Jackson and Mary Lena (Vanseyoc) Clark. He married Jean Whitfield on March 5, 1949, in Piggott, Arkansas. She survives.James worked as a crane operator for Laclede Steel for 38 years, prior to retirement, in 1986. He enjoyed farming, raising hogs and chickens, and carpentry. He was known as a kind and friendly man, whose greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Jimmie Clark and wife Yvonne of Shipman, Steve Clark of Alton; three grandchildren, Jason Clark and wife Melissa, Jordan Clark, and Nicholas Clark; two great grandchildren, Dalton and Jack Clark; two siblings and their spouses, Jearl and Kathryn Clark, George and Betty Clark; and a sister in law, Pansy Clark.He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Clark; and one brother, Russell Clark.Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m., noon, on Friday, January 6, 2017, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, with Dan Penrod officiating.Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or American Lung Association.An online condolence and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com .
