James Carter

James “Jim” E. Carter, 73, passed away on March 30, 2026.

Jim was born on March 21, 1953, in Alton, Illinois, to Charles E. and Sadie E. (Boliard) Carter.

He worked for many years as a supervisor with American Water Company. Jim had a passion for working on and seeking out cars, and he was known as a skilled handyman who was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors. A true pillar of his neighborhood, Jim was someone people could rely on-dependable, generous, and always ready to do whatever he could for anyone he met.

Jim had a gift for conversation and was especially known for sharing long, meaningful talks with anyone willing to listen. He was a devoted son who supported his family wholeheartedly and took great pride in solving problems and helping others. He frequently used his humor and fun quirks to put a smile on people’s faces.

He is survived by his two children, Christopher “C.J.” Carter (Kimberly) of Minnesota and Krista Young of Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Zeke Trudeau, Alexander Carter, Jasmine Carter, and Sophie Music; his brother, Glen Carter; and many beloved extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Paul Carter.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
