James C. Bailey aka Hillbilly Jim, 66, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 23, 2024, in Hamburg, Illinois.
He was born on October 27, 1957, in Carrollton, IL to the late Lowell Bailey and MaryAnn (Roth) Bailey. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving partner, son, Dad and Grandpa.
Hillbilly Jim is survived by his long-time girlfriend, Sharon Gwillim of Hamburg, IL, Mother MaryAnn Bailey of Michael IL, two daughters Tiffany Bailey of Mebane, NC and Aimee Bailey of San Francisco, CA and granddaughter Inez “Izzy” of Mebane, NC.
In addition to his girlfriend, mother, daughters and granddaughter, he is survived by two sisters Robin (Bernie) Hillen of Batchtown and Rosemarie (Rick) Randazzo of Cumming, GA, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends who he called his blood brothers.
Hillbilly Jim spent time in nature hunting and fishing. He loved being in the woods and on the river. He was an expert guide, an excellent marksman and bowhunter, and had an innate ability to call in Turkeys and waterfowl. He worked as millwright in Carpenter’s Local 377 and 664 up until his retirement and was an excellent welder.
He was a caring person who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was a patient and gentle grandpa to his granddaughter Izzy and was her biggest fan. He was a quiet and observant man who loved his family. He had an infectious laugh and a big heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell D. Bailey, Brother-in-Law, Rick Randazzo, and his best friend and hunting partner, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Tony.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Anselm Catholic Church on Saturday, March 9 at 10 a.m. with a celebration of life to follow at the St. Anselm church hall.
