James Gamma

James A. Gamma, age 93, of Alton, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at the home of his daughter.

He was born April 23, 1925, in Ironton, MO, the son of Frank and Cora (Heartwick) Gamma. He married Pauline Wesolowski and she preceded him in death in 1987.

James was a veteran of the US Army and served in WWII. He was a Local #110 construction worker, and helped build many of the rides at Six Flags Mid-America, including The Screaming Eagle and The Log Flume. James will be best remembered for always wearing his signature hats.

He is survived by a daughter and her spouse, Christine and Brad Martin of O?Fallon, MO, and a step-daughter and her spouse, Michaela ?Sue? and Joe Dino of Fenton, MO; his most beloved sister, Cora Crigler of Belfontaine Neighbors, MO; a brother, Frank and Genevieve Gamma of Belfontaine Neighbors, MO; five grandchildren, Ashley, Edward, Joseph, Kasandra, and Samantha; and many other friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline, long time companion Sherry Wills; and several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 23, 2018, from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 24, 2018, at 10:00 am in the funeral home chapel.

Burial will take place in Upper Alton Cemetery with military burial rites provided by Alton VFW Post #1308.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
