Irene H. McKean, 81, passed away at 8:15 am Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Christian Northeast Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born on September 20, 1928 in Dorsey, IL, the daughter of Ura & Hulda (Zoelzer) Mehrer.
She married Charles McKean on April 9, 1950 in Wood River, IL. He survives.
Irene lived in the area all of her life. She was a packer at Owens Illinois Glass for over 25 years. She also worked as a cook for 10 years at Wood River Hospital, retiring in February 1987. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Bethalto.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles & Gayle McKean of Staunton and James & Loretta McKean of Alton; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna & David Badman of Rosewood Heights; four grandchildren, Joel, Clay & Jeffrey Nimmo and Natalie Gonzalez; five great grandchildren, Patrick, Caden, Josiah and Liberty Nimmo and Roland Gonzalez; two sisters, Edna Stamm of Godfrey and Elba Sharp of Alton and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Evelyn Heidemann and Elsie Hovey.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue from 10 am until service time at 11 am on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Bethel Baptist Church in Bethalto with Pastor Pat Heston officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
