Irene Clare Gawlinski, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Willow Rose Rehab & Health Care after a short battle with cancer. She was born on August 24, 1930 in Whitehaven, England to Alexander and Mary Mitchell. She moved to the United States in 1948 and in 1957 she married Richard Donald Bross in Chicago Heights, IL. In 1993 she moved to Alton, IL to be closer to her family and quickly made many friends at Hillcrest Apartments and Evangelical United Church of Christ, where she was a devout member. She was a kind and sincere person who loved daffodils, puzzles, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Thomas, her son, Steve Bross, and her 5 grandchildren. Services for Irene will be held at Evangelical United Church of Christ on Friday September 29, 2017 at 11:00am. Any memorials for Irene should be sent to Evangelical United Church of Christ.
