Irene Bort

Irene C. Bort, 78, passed away at 8:49 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017, at Alton Memorial Hospital.She was born August 3, 1938, in New Waterford, Canada, the daughter of the late Gervase and Mary (McCormick) Campbell.Irene married Bruce Charles Bort on October 20, 1962, in Bunker Hill, Illinois. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2014.Prior to retirement, she was the head of housekeeping at the Holiday Inn in Alton. She enjoyed Bingo and sitting outside in the morning with her cup of tea. Her love for crocheting and quilting produced many baby blankets and quilts; her greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren. Irene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto.Survivors include two daughters, Barbara “Annie” Bort of Bethalto, Jaime (Andrew) Kraut of Holiday Shores; daughter in law, Mary Bort; five grandchildren, Kasie Bort, Kyle Bort, Griffin Kraut, Ashlyn Kraut, Madalyn Kraut; and six siblings, Robert Campbell of Boston, MA, Lois McKenzie of Laconia, NH, Adrian Campbell of Waltham, MA, Barbara Brock of Nashua, NH, Ralph Campbell of New Victoria, Nova Scotia, and Maurita Campbell of Carlinville.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, William Frederick Bort and Christopher Bruce Bort; and one brother Colin Campbell.Visitation will be from 9:30 until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto with Pastor Kale Hanson officiating.Burial will follow at Bunker Hill Cemetery.In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The American Heart Association or Zion Lutheran Church.Online condolences can be given at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com.
