Ina Belle Zimmerman, 91, of Godfrey, formerly of Carbondale, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Godfrey. Ina Belle was born in Wichita, Kansas to Levi E. and Hazel E. (Russell) Zimmerman. Ms. Zimmerman graduated from Kansas State University and did her internship at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Ina Belle’s career as a dietitian took her to a variety of work places including, Iowa State University, Oklahoma State University, a hospital and for a while she owned and operated a tea room in Kansas and finally to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where she worked for twenty years. Ina Belle was a member of the Godfrey First United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women and the Care Team. When she resided in Carbondale, Ms. Zimmerman was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale where she was part of the United Methodist Women, the choir, and many other various organizations. Ina Belle was active in the Carbondale Garden Study club, a volunteer at the hospital and with the Meals on Wheels. She was also a member of the AARP. Survivors include, a sister, Margaret Ann Zimmerman of Silver Springs, MD. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Godfrey First United Methodist Church. Reverend Don E. Long Jr. will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Carbondale or the Godfrey First United Methodist Church. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
