'Imogene Mae 'Jeanne' (Herring) Cox, 83, formerly of Brighton, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019.
Jeanne was born March 6, 1936 in Wood River to Merril 'Bill' and Letha Marie Herring.
She married Ronald E. Cox on Dec. 13, 1963 in East Alton. He preceded her in death Aug. 16, 2002.
Jeanne was a devoted mother and wife. She retired from the Meat Cutters Union and worked at several Tri-City Grocery Stores in the area. She loved her family and friends, loved to fish, mushroom hunt, and never met a stranger. She enjoyed sitting on the back porch of their country home, watching her father-in-law plant and harvest the fields next door. Her big smile and warm personality encouraged total strangers to be attracted to her, and they frequently became long-term friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Kim (Cox) Chambers of Urbana, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; 11 nieces and nephews; a lifelong friend, Janith Griffin; and her very dear cousins, Lonnie and Rita Mouser.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her loving stepmother, Dorothy Herring; her sister, Darlene Vaughn; and a nephew, Robert Vaughn.
Private services will be held, with burial at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Animal Rescues, PO Box 397, Godfrey, IL 62035.
