Howard L. Shumpert, age 91, of East St. Louis, IL, born August 16, 1934 in Booneville, MS departed this life on July 5, 2026 at Grand Manor, Swansea, IL.
Howard professed hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Booneville, MS. Howard served in the United States Army as a Specialist Third Class. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1957.
Howard was united in Holy Matrimony with Lorraine DuBose Shumpert in 1994.
He is preceded in death by his first spouse, Gertrude Shumpert; his parents, Will and Emma Shumpert; and his siblings, Callie Ramsey (James), Jessie Mae Hastings (Rose), Odis Shumpert (Louvenia), Joseph Shumpert, Vance Shumpert (Elizabeth), J.W. Shumpert (Minnie), Louise Barnette (Junior), Leola Agnew (Willie), Dorothy McGaha (George), Hattie Mae Anderson (M.C.), Robert C. Shumpert (Matilda), and Velma Jones (Roy).
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted spouse of 32 years, Lorraine Shumpert; his brother, Willie George Shumpert (the late Luella); and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 27, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL, with Rev. Doris Alexander officiating.
Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
