Howard Lee Schmidt, 68, of Belleville, IL, born July 26, 1957, in Belleville, IL, died of natural causes on Friday, August 22, 2025, while in hospice care.
As a youngster, Howard lived with his brother, Arthur (Judith) Schmidt, and attended High Mount Elementary School and BTHS West in Belleville, IL. Forever a farm boy, he moved to his house on the hill on the Schmidt family farm where he lived his entire adult life. Exploring the woods on his property, usually with a beloved German Shephard by his side, was one of his favorite pastimes. Always ready for a good adventure, Howard had life-long friends who could count on him to show up in his truck, ready with a story to tell and often a bag of veggies to share.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Jr. and Alice, nee Schanot, Schmidt; a brother, Arthur G. Schmidt III, and a nephew, Arthur G. Schmidt IV.
Howard is survived by his brother, Thomas (Diane) Schmidt; sister, Susan (Hugh) Thomas; sister-in-law, Judy, nee Flamuth, Schmidt; nieces and nephews.
