Howard Richard Heffner, 80, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Christian Hospital Northeast. He was born on July 12, 1938, in Fieldon, Illinois, the son of the late Clarence Edwin and Elsie Marie (Johnisee) Heffner. He married the former Carol Joyce Chapman on January 7, 1962, in Wood River, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons and a daughter in law: Jeffrey and Christina Heffner of Bethalto, Mark Heffner of St. Louis, Missouri, two grandchildren: Austin Heffner, Ellie Heffner, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Howard was formerly employed for over twenty years at the Roxana Fire Department retiring on July 1, 1998. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Wood River. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1349 in Wood River. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister: Joyce Gardner and one brother: Monty Heffner.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 9am until time of funeral services at 11am on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the First Christian Church in Wood River. Walter McCaslin will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
