Hilda Shadwick

Hilda Shadwick, 85, of Belleville, Illinois and formerly of Collinsville and Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:05 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at her home.

She was born October 21, 1940, in Advance, Missouri, a daughter of the late Clarence R. and Aline M. (Hill) Collins.

Hilda had retired from K-Mart in Granite City after 16 years of dedicated service as a clerk. She was a longtime member of Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Granite City and always enjoyed helping others through St. John’s Community Care Home Health and volunteering with Community Care food pantry in Granite City. Hilda enjoyed sewing and quilting. She loved her family and cherished many special times throughout the years.

She is survived by a son, Jimmie Barnes of Edwardsville; a daughter, Carla Barnes of Belleville; a granddaughter, Chelsea Barnes-Duncan of St. Louis; her former husband and father of her children, Carl Barnes; several nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her beloved parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Shadwick and a brother, Lemond “Lee” Collins.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026, with Reverend Sharon Autenrieth officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
