Hilda Brakhane Marth, 99, passed away at 4:47 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born Apr. 9, 1919 on the family farm near Prairietown, IL, she was the daughter of Otto and Amanda (Albrecht) Gusewelle.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, and also Roxana Senior Citizens. She was a volunteer at the former VIP nursing home for 15 years, and also volunteered with Lutheran Braille Workers. She worked in the Olin cafeteria and retired from Alton Memorial Hospital.
Hilda married Milton Brakhane Aug. 24, 1941 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairietown, and he preceded her in death Dec. 10, 1959. On March 14, 1980 she married Vernon Marth at Zion Lutheran Church, and he preceded her in death Jan. 1, 2004.
Survivors include a daughter, Diana (Darrell) Behrendt of Edwardsville; a son, Elton Brakhane of Sun City, AZ; two granddaughters, Felicia (William) Wiley of Glen Carbon and Christa (Adrian) Adam of Beecher, IL; four great grandchildren, Joseph Adam, Andrew Wiley, Steven Adam, and Marissa Wiley; a sister, Eileen Brunnworth of Staunton; a sister-in-law, Eileen and her husband Leon Tiona of Pekin, IL; and many numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lydia Fry; and a daughter-in-law Nancy (Barr) Brakhane.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 16 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto from 9 a.m. until services begin at 10:30 a.m. Pastors Mark Hofferber and Kale Hansen will officiate.
Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Worden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Metro-East Lutheran High School, Edwardsville, or BJC Hospice of Alton.
