Hilbert Edward Plegge

Hilbert Edward Plegge, 94, passed away at 1:50 pm on Monday, April 19, 2010 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

He passed away, what would have been on their 69th wedding anniversary.

He was born on March 14, 1916 on the family farm in Moro, Illinois, he lived there for 93 ¼ years. He was the son of George E. and Sophia (Klopmeier) Plegge.

He married Laura Gusewelle on April 19, 1941 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown, Illinois. She preceded him in death on August 15, 1989.

Hilbert was a farmer all of his life. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and he was an original member of the Zion Men’s Club. He was a board member for the Bethalto School District #8 and also served on the Fort Russell Township Board.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Alice & Loren Gunderson of Bethalto; a son and daughter-in-law, Ken & Linda Plegge of Moro; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jill & Brad Voss of Breese, IL, Greg & Cathy Gunderson of Chicago, IL, Pam & Eric Kleckner of Staunton, Jeanne & Jeff Schultz of Godfrey and David & Nicole Plegge of Glen Carbon; ten great grandchildren, Hanna and Austin Voss, Alec and Connor Gunderson, Seth and Ryan Kleckner, Megan and Brent Schultz and Mia and Kathryn Plegge and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Erwin Plegge and a sister, Alma Plegge.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue from 10 am to funeral service at 11 am on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Decker officiating.

Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran School.
