Herman Winders, 86, passed away at 3:10 am Thursday January 5, 2012 at Rosewood Care
Center in Glen Carbon.
He was born on July 10, 1925 in Cave-In-Rock, IL, the son of John William & Susie (Milligan) Winders.
He married Oma Lee Behnen on May 7, 1954 in Alton, IL. She survives.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a welder in the maintenance department at Laclede Steel for 34 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, Bethalto Senior Citizens and First of Bethalto Goldenaires. He enjoyed traveling all over the country including Hawaii and Alaska.
In addition to his wife, Herman is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Katy and Steven Wonnacott of Belleville, Susan Elaine and Noel Wright of Bethalto and Carol Jean and Joe Ingram of Granite City; four grandchildren, and their spouses Nolan and Shana Wright, Mark Wonnacott, Emily and Jonathan Stanley and Erin Wright; a brother and a sister-in-law, Berlie and Augusta Winders of Catlin, IL and his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ewell Winders, Henry Winders, Herbert Winders and Ulys Winders, and six sisters, Roxie Suits, Lulie Shore, Nora Suits, Alma Mae Winders, Laura Marie Drumm and Belva Board.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Monday, January 9, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto with Pastor Mark Hofferber officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or BJC Hospice.
