Herbert Sr

November 27, 2017 Herbert went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family at his home.  He was born on May 10, 1933.  He was a proud United States Navy veteran serving from 1950-1953.  He started his career at Burlington Truck Lines, and retired from Orchard Farm School District where he worked in maintenance.  He was a graduate of Metropolitan Christian Bible Institute attaining his associates, bachelors, and master’s degrees in Theology.  He was a very active member of the First Church of God in West Alton, MO.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and his son-in-law, Dean Crowe.  He is survived by his loving wife Janice (Springer) Samples, and was the loving father of Herbert Samples Jr. of Ferguson, MO.  Chester (Kay) Samples of Portage Des Sioux, MO.  James (Beth) Samples of Jerseyville, IL.  Tim (Amy) Samples of Grafton, IL.  Thomas (Trudy) Samples of Alton, IL.  Susan Crowe of Brighton, IL.  His pride and joy was his 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 at the First Church of God in West Alton, MO where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2,2017.  Brother Kelvin Lustick will officiate.  Burial will be at Ebenezer Cemetery in West Alton, MO with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Church of God, West Alton, MO.  Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
