Henry M. “Hank” Garrett, 84, died at 1:30 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2011 at Willow Rose Rehab and Health in Jerseyville. Born December 31, 1926 in Alton, he was the son of Calvin J. and Emma (Bennington) Garrett. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and Granite City Pickling. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1308 and the Tri-County Rod and Gun Club. On September 29, 1972 in Alton, he married the former Vivian V. Keeton. She preceded him in death on August 24, 1996. Surviving is a son, J.D. Garrett of Topeka, KS, one step-daughter, Mona Buller and her husband John of St. Peters, MO, and a step-son, Dean Woods and his wife Laurie of Godfrey, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, five brothers, Woodrow, Paul, Tom, Frank, and Calvin Garrett, and four sisters, Pauline Henderson, Sarah Coleman, Mary Shipkowski, Louise Higginbotham. He was preceded in death by an infant son, William Garrett, and step-son, Timothy Woods, and four siblings. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2011 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with military rites by the VFW Post 1308. Reverend Don E. Long Jr. will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 1308.
