Helen Ligus

Helen Marie (Ontis) Ligus, 92, died at 3:16 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.She was born in Nutwood on Sept. 3, 1924, and was the daughter of Lawrence and Clara (Webster) Ontis.Helen resided in the Nutwood and Fieldon areas for the majority of her 92 years here, and other than a period of time working at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville, she devoted her time and her love as a wife, mother and grandmother.She married Steve Ligus on July 27, 1962 in Alton, and were blessed with a happy 51 years together before his death on Oct. 24, 2013.Surviving are her children and their spouses, Carol and Dan Sherwin of Jerseyville, Billie and Charles Delp of Jerseyville, Donald and Louella Troutwine of Fieldon, Sharon and Roger Smith of Hamburg and Sandy and Merle Hance of Fieldon; 16 Grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren; one brother, Perry Ontis of Fieldon; a sister, Charlotte Suttles of Fieldon; and her step brothers and sisters, Phyllis Cunningham and Wanda Gundlach both of Jerseyville; and Howard Crull of Fieldon.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Opal White, Ollie Mae Delp, and Velma Martin; two brothers, Jimmy Ontis and Lawrence "Junior" Ontis; and a step brother and a step sister, James Crull and Peggy Hazelwonder.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday.  Rev. Brent Meyer will officiate.She will be laid to rest in the Fieldon Cemetery.Memorials may be given to the Activity Department at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
