Helen Mallory-Powell

Helen Mallory-Powell, 87, passed away from this world at 9:09 p.m. November 5, 2017 at her grandson's home.

Born in Wood River on September 12, 1930, she was the daughter of George W. and Opal (Tennison) Clabaugh.

Helen married  Marvin E. Mallory on April 16, 1950.  They were married 49 years.  They had three sons, David Mallory, Donald Mallory and Douglas Mallory.  Later in life she married Everett E. "Gene" Powell on February 23, 2001.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, George and Opal (Tennison) Clabaugh; her former husband, Marvin E. Mallory; her late husband, Everett E. "Gene" Powell; her brother, James Clabaugh; two sisters, Janie Clabaugh and Vina Neunaber.

Surviving are three sons, David (Karen) Mallory of East Alton, Don Mallory of Wood River, Douglas (Janine) Mallory of Cuba, MO; six grandchildren, Brian Mallory, Kimberly Hasenjaeger, Kristy Norris, Renee Galbraith, Kelly Gorsich and Kevin Mallory; three great grandchildren; a step-daughter, Traci (Powell) Vallow of Alton; and two step-grandchildren.

Helen lived a full life as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Bethalto; enjoyed square dancing, baking and sewing.  She was employed as a bookkeeper for M.E. Mallory Construction and as a seamstress and bookkeeper for Mallory Sports in Wood River, IL for many years.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m Thursday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2017.  Pastor Charles West will officiate.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

 Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation.
