Helen Lindsay

Edwardsville |

Helen May Lindsay of Edwardsville, Illinois was called to Heaven on January 5, 2024. Helen passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years. True to her nature, Helen was a beautiful soul, full of joy and love for her family and friends, up through her final days.

Helen was born on May 20, 1935, in Granite City, Illinois, the daughter of Louis and Vita Cionko. On May 23, 1953, Helen married Lindell Eugene (“L.E.”) Lindsay, her husband of 68 years until his passing in 2021. Helen was a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a doting great-grandmother. She was the rock of the Lindsay family.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband L.E., as well as her daughter Donna and eldest son Glenn who tragically died in separate automobile accidents in 1998. Helen is survived and will be dearly missed by her son Dave and wife Gayle, son Bud and wife Darla, grandson Josh and wife Cristina, granddaughter Katie, and great-grandchildren Lucas, Adrian, and Aurora.

To know Helen was to love her. She was a beautiful person inside and out and wore an infectious smile that brightened every room she graced. She loved Christ, and His love shined through her. Helen also had impeccable style and a sense of adventure that kept her decked out in high heels and cruising in a convertible well into her eighties. She enjoyed a life rich in travel, culture, and incredible experiences, but Helen took no greater pleasure than in an afternoon spent over lunch and “bumming” around town with her children and grandchildren.

Alongside her husband, Helen built a successful business in Lindsay Construction Company that humbly began with L.E. swinging a carpenter’s hammer but grew into a nationally coveted construction firm handling major projects for well-known restaurant and retail chains such as McDonald’s, Burger King, and Steak ‘n Shake, as well as a variety of projects for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service. Helen and L.E., along with their sons Glenn and after his death Dave, spent some of their best years traveling the country and the world, growing their life’s work together.

Helen was a treasure who will be missed, but never forgotten. She will live on in the hearts of the many people who love her dearly.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with her friend, Pastor Phil Sadaka of New Hope Church in Glen Carbon, officiating. Her burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to New Hope Church and may be accepted at the funeral home. www.irwinchapel.com
