Helen L. Mueggenburg, 88, passed away at 12:34 pm Monday, April 27, 2015 at The Fountains in Shilo, IL.

She was born on January 3, 1927 in Jersey County, IL the daughter of the late Russell and Ida (Tucker) Bridges; one of their seven children.

Helen married Walter C. J. Mueggenburg on March 9, 1946 in Alton, IL, he preceded her in death on December 29, 1989.

She was a loving mother, grandmother & great grandmother. Helen’s hands were never idle, always quilting or crocheting and in days past making shellronies and zucchini bread for ‘her kids.’  She was a longtime member of the Piecemakers Quilters at Alton Senior Citizens and the First Southern Baptist Church in Forest Homes.  Helen loved fishing, growing tomatoes and watching the redbirds.   Helen is survived by two sons and their spouses; Walter and Kay Mueggenburg of O’Fallon, IL and David and Carolyn Mueggenburg of Alton; five grandchildren and their spouses; Michelle and Brian Acord of Spanish Lake, MO, David E. and Krysta Mueggenburg of Godfrey, Amanda Mueggenburg of Alton, Jennifer and Bob Baily of White House, OH and Nathan and Klara Mueggenburg of Highland Park, IL, seven great grandchildren: Christopher, Cody, Lukas, Teresa, Dominic, Brian and Andrew.

She was the last surviving of her six siblings: Lloyd Bridges, Ruby Phipps, Mary Taylor, Walter (Shorty) Bridges, Mable Bridges and Melvin Bridges.  

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral service will be on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 11 am, at the 1st Southern Baptist church in Forest Homes with the Rev. Dan Penrod officiating.

Burial will follow at the Fosterburg Cemetery in Fosterburg, IL.

Memorials may be made to 1st Southern Baptist Church of Forest Homes.
