Helen Dowland-Keele

Helen L. Dowland-Keele, 94 of Carlinville, died at 8:05 P.M. on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Carlinville Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

She was born to the late John R. & Leta M. (Fenton) Meyers on August 14, 1922 in Macoupin County, Illinois.

Helen married Ansel Dowland on January 15, 1943.  He died May 28, 1971.  Later she married Robert E. Keele on September 4, 1974.  Robert died August 8, 1981.

She was a homemaker.  Helen also worked and managed the Montgomery Ward Store in Carlinville for 16 years.  She was a member of Plainview Baptist Church, member of Agnes Wickfield Chapter Order of Eastern Star #665, avid Bingo and card player.  Helen loved to go to the casino to gamble.  She also loved to be around friends and family.

Survivors include daughters; Deana (Darin) Rieman of Litchfield, Linda (Ron) Peters of Rushville, IL., Sue (Howard) Carver of Colorado, Sons; Derel Dowland of Chesterfield, IL., John (Arleen) of Columbus, IN., 17 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 1 brother; Frank (Judy) Meyers of Sherman, Illinois

Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by daughter in law; Jean Dowland, brother; James Meyers, sisters; Hazel Garner, Opal Conner, Nettie Rhoades, Gladys Burlson

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:45 PM on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Targhetta & Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton.

Eastern Star services will be at 7:45 PM immediately following the visitation.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Targhetta & Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton

Burial will take place at the Chesterfield Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Plainview Baptist Church.
