Helen Henrietta Schmidt, 93, passed away at 5:43 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 3, 1917 in West Alton, Mo., she was a daughter of August and Clara (Hannebaum) Wagemann.
She married “Christ” Schmidt Nov. 24, 1937 in Warrenton, Mo. He passed away Jan. 10, 2000. Helen was a lifelong member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey and the Alton Order of the Amaranth.
Surviving are her children, August F. Schmidt and his wife Velma of Wood River, June M. (Schmidt) Aubrecht and Annalee (Schmidt) Andrews and her husband Tom, all of Alton; her grandchildren and their spouses, Russell W. and Monica Schmidt, Marsha L. (Schmidt) and Mike Meyers, Bradley C. and Janet Andrews, Nancy Andrews, John and Becky Sarandis, Scott Sarandis, Nicholas and Michelle Sarandis, and David and Penny Sarandis; her great grandchildren, John and Anna Schmidt, Mathew, Marc and Marissa Meyers, Chris, John and James Sarandis; a sister, Margaret Tuck of Parkville, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 6 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, and will continue Thursday, Apr. 7 at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey from 10 a.m. until funeral services begin at 11 a.m. Pastor Gerald MeCaskey will officiate.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be given to the church.
