Helen Fuchs Tovo, 88, died at 2:43 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2012 at Jerseyville Manor. Born March 18, 1924 in East Alton, she was the daughter of Jeanette (Carroll) Gibson and was raised by her aunt, Bessie Lewis.

She owned and operated Illinois Credit and Adjustment in Alton with her husband Pete and also worked as a clerk for 10 years at Famous Barr in Alton. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church where she served on the Altar Society and volunteered at St. Ambrose School.

An avid golfer, she played on several golf leagues and was a member of Lockhaven Country Club. She volunteered for St. Anthony’s Auxiliary, was a former member of the Godfrey J.C.’s and past president of the PTA. She never missed her grandchildren’s soccer games. On January 15, 1949 in Alton she married Pete Fuchs. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1996. On May 26, 1979 in Alton she married Anthony “Tony” Tovo. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1999.

Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah L. and Mike Krug of Godfrey, a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Paul and Sheree Fuchs of Godfrey, five step children, five grandchildren, Meredith Walter of Brighton, Bryan Fuchs (Elizabeth) of Quincy, MA, Christopher Krug (Genipher) of Choctaw, OK, Lisa Jacobs (Ryan) of Godfrey, and Jacob Fuchs of Godfrey, six great grandchildren, Collin Walter, Alyson Walter, Kayli Jacobs, Mattilyn Krug, Christen Krug, and James Fuchs. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and John Gibson.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
