Helen Rose Davis, 92, of Dow, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023 at her home.
Born October 7, 1931, she was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Wendle) Bechtold of Beltrees.
After graduating in 1949 from Jerseyville High School, she was employed as the secretary to the Superintendent of Alton schools.
She married Herbert L. Davis on June 25,1955 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Beltrees where they were lifetime members until its closing. They then joined Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Together they shared 68 years and raised 5 children.
Helen was devoted to her family. She enjoyed countless dinner celebrations at her home, reading and working crossword puzzles, playing pinochle, and watching her family grow. She will be deeply missed.
Her children are Greg Davis (Sybil), Jan Scharth (Jim), Jeff Davis (deceased) (Missy), Cindy Davis, and Debbie Kallal (Denny). She is survived by eleven grandchildren: Chris Scharth (Brandie), Jenny Zipprich (Josh), Amanda Scoggins (Matt), Maria Scharth, Rachel Kallal, Chad Kallal (Emily), Carrie Purdy, Claire Kallal, Lauren Davis, Trevor Davis, and Morgan Davis and nine great grandchildren: Liam and Kaliann Scharth, Kayla and Carter Zipprich, Gracie and Emma Scoggins and Abram, Isaac and Eli Kallal. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Smith (Ronald), a brother, Tom Bechtold (Cindy), two sisters-in-law, Rose Scheib (Gary) and Mary Lou Davis as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom she thought the world of.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Paul and Margaret Bechtold and Jerry Becthold.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m until time of Prayer Service at 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m, Wednesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father Martin Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Beltrees.
Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Cemetery or to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic School.
