Helen Johnson

Helen D. Johnson, age 91, of Alton, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016, at her home.She was born September 13, 1925, in Bunker Hill, the daughter of John and Matilda (Bertels) Johnson. She married Elden E. Johnson October 28, 1951 in Dorsey and he preceded her in death in 1994.Helen was a devoted member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Alton. She was involved in nearly every activity of the church until her health started to fail. She known as Grandma Helen  to every kid in the neighborhood.She is survived by a son and his wife, Kelly and Patricia Johnson of Alton; a daughter, Denise Braun of Princeton, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Kyle, Kristen, John, Andrew, Shontel, and Kaidence; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Johnson and Marie Johnson, both of Dorsey.In addition to her husband, Elden; she is preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Richard and Leland “Bud” Johnson.The family would like to thank OSF Hospice and everyone at St. Clare’s Rehabilitation.Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 8, 2016, at 10:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church in Alton with Randy Fischer.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church.Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.Online condolences and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
