Hattie Sue Carpenter Lightfoot, 71, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 7:19 a.m., at Liberty Village Rehabilitation Center, with her family by her side.Hattie Sue was born August 15, 1943, in Meridian, Mississippi, to the union of the late Hollis Clifton and Elouise (Johnson) Carpenter.She attended Edwardsville High School. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Mount Joy Missionary Baptist Church until her health declined. She was a member of her church choir and was famous for her rendition of God Specializes.Hattie Sue worked as a cook at Holiday Inn in Alton, IL, and Sunset Hills Country Club, Edwardsville. She retired in 2013 as a bus monitor from First Student District 7 Bus Company after 27 years.She was well-known for her cooking and catering talents, donating her time for years at her church. Her favorite pastimes included fun trips to the Alton Belle Casino, calling her daughter 19 times a day, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.She is survived by her daughter Deidre Lynn Lightfoot (James Derrick Newsome) of Glen Carbon, IL; two grandchildren Jada Elyse Lightfoot and James Derrick Newsome II of Glen Carbon; three brothers, Clifton Hollis (Sharon), Willie (Adele), and John Henry Carpenter, all of Edwardsville; one sister Annette Louise (Leo) Hicks of Richardson, TX; three nephews, five nieces, four great-nephews and one great-great nephew.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Eartha Lee (Katie) Carpenter and Loresa (Luci) Evans.Visitation will be Saturday, June 27th, from 9:00 a.m. until service at 10:00 a.m., at Mount Joy Missionary Baptist Church, 327 Olive Street, Edwardsville, IL. Rev. Steve Jackson will officiate. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.Cathy M. Williams and Sons Funeral Home in Alton charge of arrangements.
