Hattie Beauchamp

Hattie Mae (Keel) Beauchamp

Hattie was a ray of sunshine and sweetness who will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nannie Keel, her sisters, Berniece, Mildred, Betty, her brother Lonnie, and too many dear friends.

Hattie will be remembered for her dedication to serve, which she began to demonstrate at Granite City High School. She was elected the first female student body president, and also served as Student Council President there. In a tribute to her beauty and grace, she was selected Harvest Queen in 1950. Her senior class also named her the Friendliest Girl.

As an adult, Hattie was a dedicated employee of Century Geophysical, Tulsa, Oklahoma, working in accounting and human resource positions for forty years, through mergers and acquisitions, until her retirement in 1999.

Always physically active, Hattie loved to dance, attending swing dances at the Homebuilders Association for years. Bowling was a passion at which she excelled, winning many medals and trophies through the years, especially by participating in the Senior Olympics.

Always productive, creative, and not easily bored, Hattie learned to paint, create ceramics, and cross-stitch, all of which she mastered and shared with her friends and family. We cherish her legacy of creativity and giving.

Throughout the hardships of her life, Hattie not only persevered, but grew and flourished, always sharing her smile and good nature with others, most especially her dear friends David Bergfield and Ben Schuppert, whom she loved dearly.

Hattie is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Keel) Bailey and her half-brother Ron Perigen. She is also survived by daughters Marcia Beauchamp (Rick Diener) and Cheryl Hull (Bill), grandson Justin (Jenny Briggs) and great-granddaughter Miller Briggs-Hull, all of Tulsa, and her grandson Michael Hull and his wife Lauren Katherine, of Dallas.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at St. John Cemetery, 2901 Nameoki Road, Granite City, Illinois. Following the graveside service, a celebration of Hattie’s life and funeral luncheon will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at The Mill Event Space, 1311 20th Street, Granite City, IL.

Irwin Chapel in Granite City, IL, is entrusted with the funeral arrangements, where flowers and condolences may be sent.
