Harvey O. "Big H" Steinkoenig, age 85 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, November 20, 2025, at HSHS Saint Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon, IL.
He was born on Friday, May 10, 1940, in Highland, IL, the son of Oliver and Frieda (nee Reinacher) Steinkoenig.
Harvey was born in Highland, Illinois and grew up northwest of Highland. He attended St. Jacob schools. After school he worked at Oberbeck Feed, as well as driving for Bellm Trucking, Zobrist Trucking and Yellow Freight and also was a mechanic at Illinois Truck Centers. He retired from SuperValu. After retirement, he worked part-time on a dairy farm milking cows and farming in general. “Big H” loved tinkering around with anything. He restored tractors, chairs, bicycles… you name it! He loved to travel, especially to Alaska and the Western States. Harvey also enjoyed bus tours, Maine and Mackinaw Island. His collection of bald eagles was massive and loved taking care of his mums. He could be always found at the Highland Diner, as he was an avid customer. Most importantly, he loved spending time with kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents: Oliver Jacob Steinkoenig and Frieda Helen Steinkoenig, nee Reinacher and Former Wife - Darlene Betten
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Funeral Service will be at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev. Gary Kniepkamp, Retired Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at Keystone Cemetery in Saint Jacob, IL, at a later date.
