Harry Earl Johnson III

Harry Earl Johnson III, 58, formerly of Riverside, Ca., died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, March 3, 2010 in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

He was born in Long Beach, California on July 11, 1951, and was the son of the late Harry Earl & Lucille (Murrey) Johnson Jr.

Guy, as he was know by family & friends, graduated from Placentia High School in California, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed as a long haul truck driver with FFE Trucking & England Trucking, and retired as a driver trainee. He moved to Jerseyville 2 1/2 years ago, and became very active in the Elks Lodge #954 in Jerseyville, and was employed their as a cook, and assisted in any other capacity that was needed. He truly enjoyed the friendships that he made during his time in Jerseyville.

Surviving are a two sons, Jeffrey C. Johnson of Jerseyville and Jeremiah Johnson of Grants Pass. Or.; three granddaughters, Summer, Pamela & Serenity; two sisters & brothers in law, Linda & Don Layman of Jerseyville and Sandra & Jim Oldfield of Riverside, Ca., a brother & sister in law, Gordon & Billie Johnson of Foster City, Ca.; eight neices & nephews and 13 Great Neices & Nephews.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a brother, Eldred Johnson, and a sister, Pamela Johnson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites.

Memorials may be given to the Isabella Grimes Educational Fund in care of the funeral home.
