Harry Banfield

Moro |

Harry Dean Banfield, 81, of Moro, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 11:04 am, at Anderson Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born on May 20, 1942, in Decatur, IL, the son of Harry Oscar and Clara  Elizabeth (Gosnell) Banfield.

Harry is a Veteran of the United States Army. He worked for the Wood River Refinery in computer services from 1974 until his retirement in 2000. He was an avid horse lover. He enjoyed collecting horse figurines. He also enjoyed having his own horses growing up and teaching his nieces and nephews how to ride them. He raised a daddy's girl, in his eyes she could do no wrong. He spent many hours in a gym watching his son wrestle. There is no other place he would rather be. His pride and joy were his 4 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren. You could always find him on the sidelines cheering them on at whatever sport they are playing. He was truly one of their biggest fans. He was a lifetime St Louis Cardinals fan. If you ever wanted to know anything about the weather, he was sure to have the statistics on his many weather monitors.

Survivors include his daughter, Stacey (Brent) Grable of Moro; a sister, Eleanor (Dale) Scott of Decatur, and Wayne (Connie) Banfield of Decatur; four grandchildren, Cameron (Brianna) Zyung, Kylee (fiancé Jacob Weidenbenner) Zyung, Madysen (fiancé Ryan Mandorca) Zyung, and Brayden Zyung; and two great-grandchildren, Daisy Lyn and Malachi Dean Zyung. Many Nieces, Nephews and cousins.

He also leaves behind his faithful companion Chloe.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael D. Banfield; and a sister, Mary Jane Osborne.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 11 am to 1 pm, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Graveside services will be held at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto at 1:15 pm.
