Harry Alan Turnbeaugh, 80, formerly of Bethalto, IL, passed from this life and on to another at 9:29 a.m., Tues. July 12, 2016 at Freeburg Care Center.
Harry was born Aug. 6, 1935 in Cottage Hills to Harry W. & Nellie A. (Carroll) Turnbeaugh. He was the first baby born in Cottage Hills.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a dry wall hanger for over 40 years and owned and operated Hap Turner Drywall in Bethalto for many years. Harry was an avid golfer, bowler, hunter and baseball fan. He was a Khoury League coach and manager for 3 years and was awarded Manager of the Year for 2 consecutive years. In his later years, his biggest hobby was collecting American Indian memorabilia. Harry maintained throughout his life that his two biggest accomplishments were his children and being a good Christian.
He is survived by 6 children: Michael (Bobbie) Turnbeaugh of Tampa, FL, Deanna Turnbeaugh of Belleville, IL, Donald Turnbeaugh and Tracey Lynch both of College Station, TX, Timothy Turnbeaugh of Godfrey, IL and Joy (Ron) Cole of Midwest City, OK; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister: Lynn E. (Terry) Etling of Springfield, IL; and was a loving uncle to 4 nieces.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife: Nina M. (Trustee) Turnbeaugh; parents; a brother, Edward E. Turnbeaugh; a sister: Shirley Cox; and a granddaughter: Lori Beth Smith.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thurs. July 14, 2016 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Fri. July 15, 2016 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Cottage Hills.
