Harold Dean Wright, 92, died at 1:40 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at Jerseyville Community Hospital. He was born July 12, 1933 in Marshall, Missouri, the son of the late Aldolphus and Richie Valentine (Artz) Wright.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and he was a member of Godfrey Baptist Church. Harold was a towboat captain with Ingram Barge company before he retired in 1996.
On October 9, 1993 in Godfrey, he married Alice Marie Whyers Sexton and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Gloria McGaughey (David) and Ginny Copley, five grandchildren, Teresa Griffin (Jeff), Donnie Elliot, Barbara Peace, Walker Copley and Mason Copley and several great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Schmidt, three brothers, Kenneth Wright, Homer Wright, Ross Wright and four sisters, Betty Nord, Louise Jenkins, Mae Ahrens and Bernice Holland.
A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Dr. Glen Greenwood will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Alton Post 1308 VFW.
