Harold Francis Heiney was born February 24, 1937 in rural Summersville, Texas County, MO. to Arthur Harold and Mary Francis (Newby) Heiney. He succumbed to his long battle against Alzheimer’s disease on December 13, 2019 at home at the age of 82.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Mary (West) Heiney on October 10, 1959 in Summersville, MO. To this 60 year union, two daughters and one son were born.
Surviving are his wife Dorothy, daughters Teresa Martin (John) of Chesterfield, MO, Shelley Miller (Andy Schneider) of Shipman, IL and son, Mark Heiney (DeAnn) of Edwardsville, IL; grandchildren John Adams Martin (Lani), Stephanie Yates, Harold Martin (Mackenzie), Heather Nelson, Mark T. Heiney (Ashley), Justin Heiney (Suzanne), Taylor Martin, great grandchildren Ryker and Savannah; two brothers Joe Heiney (Lois) of West Plains, MO, Doyle Heiney (Treena) of Summersville, MO and one sister, Kathleen Keeling of Eminence, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Leanne, brother-in-law Gary Keeling, sisters-in-law Glenna Heiney and Dorlinda Heiney.
Harold graduated from Summersville High School, then served in the United States Army as a military police officer where he spent the majority of his service in Germany. He then returned to work at Granite City Steel, retiring after 30 years of service in 1987. Harold also enjoyed farming with his father and brother, was a licensed real estate agent and auctioneer.
After retiring, Harold and Dorothy moved to their farm in Summersville and spent many years training and showing horses, trail riding, raising cattle and enjoying life. He loved putting a deal together - whether it was land, horses or cattle. He also served on the board for 15 years for the Texas County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Harold will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In celebration of Harold’s life, visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:30 a.m. at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon. Burial will follow with full military rites at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. John Community Care in Collinsville, IL.
