Harold Eugene Holmes, 75, died peacefully at 3:10 a.m, Monday, March 9, 2015 at his residence.He was born in Carrollton on June 30, 1939, one of two children born to the late Harold Lewis & Ellen (Abbott) Holmes.He attended Carrollton Community High School, and entered the U.S. Army where he served his country admirably.He worked at Olin Brass Mill in East Alton for ten years, until his heart issues forced him to retire. In his younger years he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, trapping, and shooting trap. As time passed, fishing became his sport of choice.He married the former Mary Sue Hillis on July 7, 1961 in Berdan, and together they have shared 53 years together.Surviving are his wife, Mary Sue Holmes of Carrollton; two daughters & sons in law, Kelli & Steve Angel and Kollette & Mark Shade all of Carrollton; six grandchildren, Chelsea, and her husband, Darren Bierman, Parker Angel, Jerrica Shade, Kaleb Shade and Dylan Shade all of Carrollton, and Jessica Shade of Hartford; a great grandchild, Reese Bierman; and a sister & brother in law, Barbara & James Felts of Carrollton.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Life Point Church in Carrollton, with Rev. Scott Wade officiating.Tri County Honor Guard will conduct military rites immediately following the services.Cremation will take place after the services.Memorials may be given to the Life Point Church in Carrollton, Blessing Hospice of Greene County, or to the Greene County Health Department.
