Gwenda Lynn (Paine) Davis, 78, of Champaign, passed away unexpectedly following an accident at her home on May 21, 2026, in Champaign.
Gwenda was born on October 14, 1947, in Greenville, to Lloyd and Juanita Paine. She lived a life centered on family, friendship, hard work, and caring for others.
Gwenda retired from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign after nearly 30 years as an executive assistant. She was respected for her professionalism, dedication, and kindhearted spirit throughout her career.
She enjoyed gardening and had a deep love for cooking and canning, especially barbecue. Gwenda proudly competed in barbecue contests alongside family and friends and was known for bringing people together through her food and hospitality. She also catered numerous events throughout Central Illinois and for functions associated with the University of Illinois. An avid supporter of University of Illinois athletics, she especially enjoyed following Illini sports and cheering on her favorite teams.
Later in life, Gwenda became a faithful member of Mount Nebo Primitive Baptist Church and was baptized there in 2022. Her faith brought her comfort, peace, and joy.
She is survived by her son, Kurt Davis and wife Angie of Tulsa; her daughter, Terri Davis of Jacksonville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her longtime partner, Charles Ehrle; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her warmth, generosity, and loving spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Juanita Paine; her former husband, Danny Davis; and her siblings, Judy and Carl.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Nebo Primitive Baptist Church.
