Guy V. ‘Lefty’ White, age 89, passed away at 5:45 pm Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
He was born on May 8, 1923 in Greenville, IL, the son of the late Guy and Anna (Schmitt) White.
Lefty married Verna Mae Kennedy on September 18, 1942 in Alton and she preceded him in death on August 5, 2007.
He served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII. He retired from the maintenance shop at Laclede Steel after 42 years. He was a member of the Alton Eagles and the Alton VFW Post 1308.
He is survived by two children a son; Steven White of Blue Springs, MO, a daughter; Susan and husband Chris Vogt of Alton, one grandchild Chris and wife Kim White of Roxana, two great grandchildren Steven and Stephanie White.
Lefty was preceded in death by his parents. spouse and one granddaughter; Jessica Elizabeth White and one sister; Mary Virginia White.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton where funeral service will be held at 10 am Saturday September 1, 2012 with the Chaplin Bruce Baumberger officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park with military honors from IL Military Funeral Honors of East St. Louis, IL.
