Gordon Ruyle

Gordon Dale Ruyle, 83, died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at White Hall Nursing & Rehab. 

Born April 27, 1935 in Belleview, IL, he was the son of Joseph Oscar and Mildred (Smith) Ruyle.

He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Ruyle worked as a bottle maker for Owens Illinois Glass and also owned Ruyle’s Electric Motor Repair. In 1967 he married Mary (Swift) and she preceded him in death 2002. On June 19, 2004 he married the former Shirley Strowmatt. She survives. 

Also surviving are four daughters, LaDonna Ostendorph of Alton, Jami Headrick (Andy) of Lake St. Louis, MO, Mary Kay Dunham (Tim) of Godfrey, and Veronica Sue Farace (Ed) of Spanish Lake, MO, two sons, Michael Ruyle (Angel) of Carrolton, and Greg Ruyle (Kelly) of Missouri. Thirteen grandchildren, Ian Ruyle (Callie), Dallas Ruyle, Delaney Ruyle, Sheridan Ruyle, Chloe and Kelsie Ostendorph, Aaron Holmes (Katie), James Ervin (Jen), Jennifer Byrd (Ray), Tim Dunham, Megan Hagerty, Kelly McNamee (Tim) and Brian Headrick, nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and a sister, Margie Wells (Tony) of Alton. 

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Phillip, Paul, Hurley, Elby and George Ruyle, and a sister, Alberta Knight. 

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Greg Linscott and Reverend Steve Livengood will officiate. 

Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military honors by Alton VFW Post 1308.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
