Goldie Marshall

Goldie Cecelia “Trink” Marshall age 93, of Staunton, Illinois, formerly of Edwardsville, passed away March 8, 2026 at Staunton Health and Rehab.

She was born June 25, 1932 in Hartford, Illinois; a daughter of the late Joseph and Goldie (Hamilton) Hackethal. Trink worked as a CNA and retired from Madison County Nursing Home. She often told her family her favorite job though, was being a mother, farm wife, grandma and great-grandma.

She was an ordained Presbyterian Church Elder and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville, and later the First Presbyterian Church of Bethalto. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, flower and vegetable gardening and canning, sewing, making baskets, reading, and collecting nutcrackers.

She is survived by her son Gregg Cooper (wife Sherry) of Jerseyville, Illinois, daughter Gail Nelson (husband Tim) of Bunker Hill, Illinois, grandson Luke Nelson (wife Makenzie) of Carbondale, Illinois, granddaughter Andi Rae Newingham (husband John) of Columbia, Missouri, granddaughter Julie Nelson and fiancé Will Ahlgrim of Rock Island, Illinois, great-granddaughter Luna Sway Newingham of Columbia, Missouri and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Trink was preceded in death by husband Ray H. Cooper (January 1977), husband George Marshall (March 2019), brothers Joseph “Doad”, Leo, John, Peter, Thomas and Cletus Hackethal, and sisters Leona Hackethal, Bulah “Boots” Carpenter, and Frances Buhr.

Visitation will be held at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home, 210 N. Kansas, Edwardsville, IL from 10 am to 12 pm, Thursday, March 12. Funeral Service begins at12:00 pm at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home with Reverend Patrick Thatcher officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon IL. Memorials may be made to Bethalto Presbyterian Church or to K9’s for Warriors.
