Gloria Hanfelder

Gloria June “Butchie” Hanfelder, 83, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 12:49 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

She was born November 23, 1942, in Granite City, a daughter of the late William O. and Billie J. (Dickerson) Hasty Sr. She married the love of her life, William David “Bill” Hanfelder, on July 3, 1960, in Waterloo, Illinois. Together, they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage, building a lifetime of cherished memories and creating a beautiful family legacy filled with love.

Family was truly the heart and soul of Butchie’s life. Nothing brought her greater pride or happiness than being a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She treasured the life she and Bill built together on their family farm, where they raised their daughters and created a special place that continued to bring generations of family together. Having her loved ones gathered at the farm meant the world to her, and she cherished every opportunity to be surrounded by those she loved.

Whether celebrating weddings, birthdays, holidays or simply enjoying time together, Butchie found her greatest joy in making memories with family and friends. Christmas held an especially dear place in her heart, and she loved the excitement, traditions and togetherness of the holiday season. She also enjoyed shopping for crafts and could always appreciate a day spent browsing for something special.

Butchie had a lifelong love of softball and continued playing until the age of 55. She enjoyed the friendships, fun and memories made throughout her years on the field. She also had a wonderful appreciation for good food and never passed up an opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal, especially when shared with the people she loved.

Above all, Butchie will be remembered for her deep devotion to her family, her love of life's simple pleasures and the countless memories made around the family farm. Her greatest accomplishment was the family she loved so dearly, and her legacy will continue through the generations blessed to call her their own.

In addition to her beloved husband, Bill, she is survived by two daughters, Tammy Hanfelder of Granite City and Tari (Dan) Harper of Granite City; six grandchildren, Michael (Amy Schnettgoecke) Hanfelder, Mandi (Jarrod Leckrone) Hanfelder, Lyn (Matt) Parrott, Danny Harper, Ali (Ed) O’Brian and Andi (Jake) Hall; ten great-grandchildren, Kinley (Daytin), Cade, Fisher, Addi, Paislee, Rynlee, Harper, Luke, Mabree and Grace; a great-great-grandson, Karsin; two sisters, Patsy Burns of Granite City and Debra (John) Burdge of Edwardsville; many nieces and nephews; other extended family members and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Hasty Jr.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Irwin Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, with Pastor Steve McKinney officiating.
