Gloria Biznek

Gloria Margaret Rosalynde (Piercey) Biznek, 93, of Staunton, IL, affectionately known to many as “B”, peacefully entered her heavenly home on August 12, 2026.

Born in Lynden, Ontario, Canada on November 19, 1932, to Rev. Lorne & Florence (Schell) Piercey, Gloria attended a private girls’ boarding school, Branksome Hall, before moving with her family to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to follow her father’s calling as a Methodist minister.

A graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, Gloria received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education & moved to Staunton, IL, beginning a long & fulfilling career where she started at Staunton High School teaching Home Economics. After the birth of her three children, she returned to teaching third grade at Gillespie Elementary in 1972 before moving to teach kindergarten at the Gillespie Maple Street Elementary School. She taught three generations of students, & while many of them over the years lauded her as their “favorite”, every student was easily her favorite.

A devoted wife & mother, Gloria effortlessly put her home economics skills to use & was an expert in homemaking. While raising their children, sewing became one of her passions. She made everything from her family’s clothes to home décor & costumes. She also enjoyed attending many big band events over the years, where she was often seen flitting around the dance floor with her husband, Ed.

Gloria had a heart for service. An active member of Staunton United Methodist Church, she sang in the choir. She also volunteered at Staunton Community Hospital for years, quickly becoming a friendly face to many. Her kindness knew no bounds, her smile was infectious, & her zany personality shined, all while making others feel special.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Edward Biznek; her parents; her sister - F. Lorene Carvin; & her brother - Denistoun Piercey.

She is survived by her three children - Vicki (Kent) Hake, Linda (Doug) Auffarth, & Mark (Amy) Biznek; grandchildren - Mike (Eli) Richardson, Nick Auffarth, Taylor Auffarth, Olivia Snell, Madeline Snell, Hank (Indigo) Biznek, Meg Biznek, & Sam Biznek; & her great granddaughter - Marley Auffarth.

A private family service was held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at the First Methodist Church in Staunton, IL, with burial following at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, IL. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
