Gladys Marie Fenton, 88, of Brighton, IL passed away quietly November 12, 2023 at OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton. The much-loved mom, (Mammaw, Aunt Pete), was surrounded by family including many nieces and nephews throughout the day until she slipped quietly into the arms of the angels. Born in Boonville, MO, Marie was the daughter of Carl and Ruby (Bruce) Brands. They preceded her in death. She married her high school sweetheart, Paul Fenton (Pappaw, Gear) on February 14, 1953 and were together for 63 years. She is survived by their three children, Vicki (Bob) Aubuchon, Mike (Pam) Fenton, and Brenda Pacini, all of Brighton. Daughter Cynthia Marie preceded her in death in December of 1956. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Heather (Rob) Sipes, Carrie Cougill, Michael (Ashley) Cougill, Justin (Tonya) Fenton, Paula (Joe) Tretter, Natalie (Dan) Hagen, Nick (Kristin) Aubuchon, Amanda (Ned) Dolan. She has twenty-five great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren with two more on the way. Marie is also survived by her sisters, Dixie Hussey of Basco, IL, Patricia (Fern) Markert of Miami, FL, a brother-in-law Norman Dickerman of Jerseyville, IL, her sister-in-law, Judi (Leon) Watts, and numerous nieces and nephews. A sister, Carole Dickerman, preceded her in death. Marie enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking for her great grandchildren, and watching the seasons change. She appreciated the good snow, a thunderstorm, the falling of the leaves, spring flowers and shelling on the beach. One of her greatest joys in recent years was watching the older grandchildren grow into their lives and the little ones play. Visitation will be Friday, November 17, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton or the Brighton Spay and Neuter Alliance. Gent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
