Gertrud "Trudy" M. Largen, 88, of Bethalto, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
She was born on February 2, 1935, in Munich, Germany, the daughter of Anna (Dallinger) Janni and her step-father, Karl Janni. She married Richard L. Largen on April 10, 1959, in Boebling, Germany. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2016.
Trudy was a capper in the machinist union at Olin Corporation until her retirement on April 30, 1989. She was a member of the Bee Keepers Association, Edwardsville Goshen Farmers Market, and the Machinist Union. Trudy enjoyed cooking, puzzles, riding around on a golf cart, reading, and loving on her dog, Lily. Trudy also loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Richard (Kim) Largen of Lakewood, IL, Juanita (Dave) Vautrin of Phoenix, AZ, Susan (Troy) Thomas of Bethalto, and David Largen of Safford, AZ; a brother Karl Janni, of Berlin, Germany; and five grandchildren, Allan (Chad) Largen, Robert (Donea) Largen, Nicholas Salamanchuck, Branden Slayden, and Dustin Largen; and one great-grandchild, Dakota Slayden.
Trudy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard; and a brother, Gerhart Janni.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 9:30 am until time of service at 11 am, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Causal attire is requested. Tolliver Laswell will officiate. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with a graveside service at 12:45pm.
