Jerseyville | Save
Gerta Louise (Russell) Dooley, 70, of Jerseyville, IL drifted peacefully into Heaven on August 21, 2017 at 8:15pm at White Hall Nursing and Rehab.
Gerta was born June 5, 1947 to Carl and Mildred (Gentry) Russell. She graduated from Jersey Community High School and shortly after married her high school boyfriend Kenneth Evans. They were married for several years and eventually divorced and she married Ronald Dooley.
She lived in Jerseyville for years before traveling to Mississippi for some time. She then returned and settled in Alton for a while before returning to Jerseyville.
Gerta never had any children of her own but was loved by many nieces and nephews. She was a carefree, loving individual that loved her family and life to the fullest.
Her love for Elvis was contagious and the joy that beamed from her when hearing his music was delightful. This love was only surpassed by the love of her dogs. There was never a time that she did not have one and not one was more important than the other.
Fran and Marilyn’s Restaurant was the last job that she held for many years. She held a variety of jobs through the years which included the Glass Works, in her younger years, and Midtown Restaurant in Alton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronald Dooley, and her great nephew Garrett Short.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Patricia and David East and brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Suzi Russell along with many nieces and nephews.
There will be a showing on Monday August28, 2017 from 4-7 at Alexander-Gubser Funeral home in Jerseyville, Il with Funeral service to follow at 7:00pm. Rev Carl Hayes will be officiating.
