Gerald M. “Jerry” May, age 91, of Bethalto, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2018 under BJC Hospice Care at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton, IL.
He was born on July 21, 1927 in Huntingdon, TN to James and Sarah (Moore) May. He married Dorothy Antoinnette Hayes on December 9, 1952 in Bethalto, IL. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2014.
Jerry was a skilled bricklayer, having received the 50 year gold card from the Bricklayer Union #8. He was also an excellent woodworker, making intricate pieces for his home, family, and friends.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy in World War II and the Korean War. Jerry participated in the Veteran’s honor Flight in April 2016. He was a lifelong member of the Alton VFW Post 1308.
Jerry is survived by a son, Jeffery May (Ann) of Mukwonago, WI; a daughter, Lori Kwas (Charles) of Bethalto, IL; and grandchildren, Monica May of Franklin, WI, Ryan May of Mukwonago, WI, and Vincent Kwas of Bethalto, IL.
A Private Family Burial will take place at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Alton VFW Post 1308 will conduct full military rites.
Memorials can be given to the Bethalto Boys and Girls Club.
